I'm not entirely sure, but if that turns out to be the case, anything you find on the JSPS page would be relevant. 厚生労働科学特別研究事業 has been translated as "health-ministry funded study group," "study group sponsored by [the MHLW]," etc. in the English version of Nikkan Yakugyo.
