Japanese term or phrase: ロール方式又は圧延方式といった従来の方法で行うことができる
The patent translates this as the roll and the rolling method. Is there a better English description of these methods, as linguistically there is not much difference between roll and rolling?

English translation:the rolling method or the rolled-sheet method
Explanation:
When you need to use another term to say the same thing, maybe you need to make up one. Although I'm not sure if the term "rolled-sheet method" is used in the industry or not, it at least serves the purpose of being an alternative term to add in your patent translation.

... using a traditional method such as the rolling method or the rolled-sheet method.

Rolling seems to be followed by "stretching".

I found one document where a Japanese author even used the term "re-stretching".

Thank you. The roll method and the rolling method, although not self-explanatory, give one room to maneuver.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you for your help. I am sure the answer lies in some technological difference between the two methods that neither the original Japanese nor the English translation capture for the uninitiated.

Asker: It is not apparent what the author had in mind. The rolling is probably calandering, and the roll method appears to refer to contact with a cooling roller.
