Yes, I think 排出物 was just a typo, since there were additional instances of 「抽出物」 in other parts of the same text (which, if memory serves, was talking about a Japanese pickled burdock snack. I will go with spice extract. Thanks for the help!

A literal translation would be a waste product of processing a spice(s), but it does not sound very appealing for food.

Well, ground spices would be translated as 粉末(funmatsu)香辛料, which implies spices that were deliberately ground, then the meaning of 排出物 would be totally lost. Ground spices does sound better than debris of spices, though.

Seeing two more people think the same way, I will add a little more information. Spice extractives are usually available for industrial users, whereas spice extracts are often sold at a retail store for consumers but also sold to commercial users to make quality, expensive food. If those ingredients in your question are listed on a food label, it is likely to be spice extractives. I have the impression some Japanese food that contains obscure ingredients uses this term.

agree  Robin Boyd: I agree. Extract is the only thing that makes sense on a food package, and I have seen it in English lists of ingredients. Why they don't use "抽出物" is a mystery to me though.
