Dear ProZ members,

in a Japanese movie the American army has to face a インダス原理主義同盟. Is it correct to translate it as "an Indus fundamentalist alliance"?

I find that インダス refers to the Indus river/valley/civilization.

This alliance fights the muslims of the region, so "Hindu" would make more sense to me. But that would be ヒンドゥー in Japanese, isn't it?

Thank you!

English translation:Indus (Indus Fundamentalist Alliance)
Explanation:
I don't think this can be answered without knowing the exact context from the movie you're translating, but I think you're right in thinking this should be something like "Indus Fundamentalist Alliance" or "Indus Fundamentalist Group."

It seems likely インダス原理主義同盟 refers to a fictional group located near to the Indus river or valley, which runs through both India and Pakistan.

I would avoid describing them as "Hindu" unless this is explicitly mentioned somewhere else in the movie. Especially considering most of the Indus river is in Pakistan, which is predominantly Islamic.
