Japanese term or phrase: 役員, うち社外
Full text: 上期報酬等の額には、役員退職慰労引当金の当期増加額(取締役8百万円、監査役0百万円 3 (うち社外0百万円))が含まれております.

My issue: A) 役員, Which will be the correct officer or executive?

B) うち社外, What will be the correct translation, my guess was external auditors as うち社外 appears in brackets after 監査役(auditor) or is it about the external source for retirement benefits.

My understanding: The amount of remuneration for the first half of the fiscal year includes the current fiscal year increase in the reserves for retirement benefits for officers/executives (¥8 million for directors and ¥0 million for auditors 3 (of which ¥0 million yen for external auditors)).

officer; including 0 million yen for external officers
Explanation:
1. 役員=officer
Officers are appointed under statute by the general meeting of shareholders (or an equivalent statutory governance organ of the organization). By contrast, “executive” is a generic designation which can be attributed at discretion.
2. うち社外=Including external officers - The aggregate amount paid to external directors and corporate auditors

The sentence at issue would need to be translated as follows:

The amount of remuneration, etc., for the first half includes in the current fiscal year an increase in provisions for retirement benefits for officers (8 million yen for directors, 0 million yen for corporate auditors (including 0 million yen for external officers)).

Please note:
- 報酬等 = remuneration, etc. The etc., is usually defined as “any and all other relevant benefits and constitutes part of the remuneration.
- 役員退職慰労引当金 is a provision, not a reserve.
- “Provisions for retirement benefits for officers” is the English term used by EDINET.

Explanation:
To answer your question A), I would use "officers" in this context.

As for B), I would interpret it as 役員 (うち社外役員); of the total increase, none was for the outside officers. Even if the writer meant "of which, outside auditors", since there is no reference to the outside directors, we understand that there was no increase in the reserve for the outside directors. Hence, the amount will remain correct as an increase for the "outside officers" anyway. (The company has to come up with their own fund for the retirement benefit reserve instead of relying on an external source.)

(Btw, I don't think "3" should be there unless it is a superscripted reference number. Lastly, "yen" is not necessary in "¥0 million yen".)
