Italian term or phrase: lavorazione a riquadri

It's the description of a pencil skirt. It is made of wool and the text specifies several times that "la lavorazione è a riquadri", "gonna con lavorazione a riquadri", "design geometrico a riquadri".
The skirt is simply black, so this "riquadri" is not a checkered pattern, it's about how the wool is knitted.
What is the correct term in English?

Explanation:
Depending on if you have an actual photo or are working strictly from text, in the latter case I might opt for "[color] tonal checked wool knit" if other descriptors indicate it's stretchy, [color] tonal checked wool weave" if not (or if not indicated).

Because I also love Lisa Jane's motif suggestion, a combo could be "[color] wool skirt with a tonal checked motif"

In the former case, it would be easier to accurately describe the motif, i.e. tonal plaid as seen in my second link, or "textured monochromatic houndstooth weave/motif"
