This is about attachment theory. You really need to know the classic work by Bowlby, Harlow and Lorenz before you translate this stuff. Thinking about it "responsiveness" is not really a construct at all, but a directly measurable variable, the famous responses of behaviourist S-R theory which deny constructs. Attachment is more of a construct although much closer to an empirical variable than say anxiety or intelligence. I mean it is like the difference between a conditioned or unconditioned responses. The language looks easy, but I once had to cite Pavlov in chapter and verse to convince a professor she'd got it mixed up. She cut the whole chapter. |
