Thin enlargement of the plica
fine= "di spessore o diametro notevolmente ridotti, sottile" (Nuovo Devoto-Oli digitale)
iperplasia="aumento delle dimensioni di un organo o di un tessuto" (Nuovo Devoto-Oli digitale)
see reference just to see the use of the word PLICA in a medical context. The link refers to the Knee Plica Syndrome. In this case we do not know if its is a syndrome and I would stick to the meaning of the expression from the medical record.

Note from asker:
Thank you a lot, Naomi! In the time since your replies have appeared, I have already found out that there is a plica in the knee joint. I just couldn't match it with the first word: "fine". Although I know the basic Italian (I learned it once) I don't actually translate from Italian, my working languages are German and English. But I am often asked by one translation company to help them understand obscure texts, because I have a medical degree. It's about translation into Ukrainian. |

Doesn't your text specifiy which synovial plica appears slightly thickened on MRI?
As you can see in the reference, they seem to be qualified as "thickened" when abnormal

Thank you a lot. Judy. No, it's the only sentence concerning plica. No, that is the only phrase that refers to the plica. |
