Italian to English translations [PRO]
Computers: Systems, Networks
Italian term or phrase: pescante
Hello,

I am translating .ppt presentation slides relating to the use of SAP systems. I don't know how to translate the term "pescante". Here is the full context:

"La ritenzione del pescante è una caratteristica quantitativa, occorre inserire il numero di valori corrispondente alla dimensione del campione."

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

FISHING

Explanation:
Hi
it could refer to the data fishing which sometimes in statistics or sample analysis gives wrong results. As it is talking about SAP and sample it may be referring to procedures of sifting of data where there is a data dredging. Or then again could be referring to a fishing stuff.

pump straw

Explanation:
In the context, the reference is to a pump method of dispensing, as in for toothpaste or soap. The actual pump has more than one component, e.g., head, straw, assembly. In this case I would opt for "straw" as the part of the device which contains material which is not actually dispensed, therefore retained in the "straw" or pipe, which would also have a quantitative value. See the link for the options.
