v.s. Explanation: No actual meaning in italian - extremely rare, no etimology - probably corruption of last name "melecchi", also very rare (but a bit less, origin from Emilia-Romagna region, almost unexistent in the rest of Italy). This is all, no other infos, AFAIK. Bye |

No immediate particular meaning. Look below. Explanation: If it is an Italian name, check the Dizionario biografico degli italiani in any major research library. And of course, any genealogical source on the Internet. Often some of these sources will give you clues as to any potential meaning. Remember that many Italian names, in the US and elsewhere were often both mispelled and changed. |

I do no tknow - Probably in Emilia Romagna Explanation: Dear Anthony, My name family is Melecci. My father has got two brothers. Although I have been living in the UK (and also in the States) for over 23 years I was born in the province of Ferrara. I have never managed to figure out where my Family name originates. In the Ferrara area I do not know of anybody else named Melecci Dad and his two brothers lost their parents at a very early age : his mother died when he was three and my paternal grandfather died in Germany during the war. The thre childre were taken care by my grandofather's sister Ma paternal grandfather was an interpeter. On the other hand, my mother family name is Baravelli, which obviously is quite a common name in Emilia Romagna. My greatgrandmother (on the Baravelli side) died at the respectble age of 97 +, and from her I learnt the pure "bolognese" dialect spoken in Bologna in the 19th century. On my father side my three cousins have died young. Unfortunately I am the only Melecci in that area of the younger generation, now middle aged ungracefully (or disgracefully). I hope I have been of some help. Kind regards (Marco) Giuseppe Melecci Ps. Tomorrow I will be flying back from the Uk to Bergamo and then I will be in Ferrara to see my ageing Dad. I'll be in touch. Sorry for the typos but I am in a rush. Regards from the hunid and hot Faversham in Kent (UK) Giuseppe Melecci -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs 10 mins (2004-07-20 22:16:40 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Oooohhps, quite a few typos! |
