How far can the foreboding be granted or not granted that he has run away! Explanation: This innocent-looking sentence, in its sensitivity, is complex. As it is, there is no readymade expression of it in English. We shall have to invent one. I call upon all my stalwart peers to devote some time to thinking of a better translation of the sentence, and settle this issue. Some more expression that comes to my mind is: How sure or unsure can one be that he hasn't run away? Can we surmise the possibility that he has run away? O' Tempora, O' Moses, he might have run away! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 7 hrs (2009-09-09 13:18:21 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I meant to say: Some more expressions that come to my mind are: How sure or unsure can one be that he hasn't run away?
