passe-partout Explanation: This pertains to pictures or photographs. A passe-partout is a frame in itself, so the part 'rahmen' does not require translating. "Passepartoutrahmen" is a pleonasm. I don't know for sure about "Schrankoberkranz", but I suggest you investigate the words 'crib' and 'curb'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 37 min (2017-03-09 12:46:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Yes, the passe-partout could be made of cardboard/oblique paper or similar, but it is then placed inside the picture frame …, not inside the 'passe-partout frame'. At least, that is my opinion. |
