Ein stehender Stuhl ist ein Stuhl mit lotrechten Stuhlsäulen. Sind diese zur Unterstützung der Firstpfette oder zur mittigen Stützung der Kehlbalken nur in der Längsachse unter dem First angeordnet, wird vom einfach stehenden Stuhl gesprochen, bei einer zweireihigen Stellung vom doppelt oder zweifach stehenden Stuhl. Kombinierte Konstruktionen werden auch als mehrfach stehender Stuhl bezeichnet.[9]

From 1350 this was achieved by adapting the raised-aisle structures found earlier in France and known in Germany as standing trusses (stehender Stuhl)… the roof (after 1440) of the Stephansdom in Vienna is perhaps the most spectacular example.

Thank you very much for your help! After some more research, I'd worked out that the Stuhl referred to is a truss, but was still stuck on the "stehender" bit.
