Bus/Financial - Real Estate
French term or phrase: Location-gérance
The context is a campground that has a number of shops and restaurants, which the campground doesn't manage directly. Some are seasonal rentals, but others, mostly the restaurants and bars, are under "location-garance":

"Location-gérance : commission variable sur CA"

I've seen other kudoz suggesting lease management/management lease/leasing management, but it really doesn't sound right to me. Basically the campground just takes a cut of revenue in lieu of rent. Is there a similar arrangement in the English-speaking world? Or something else I can call it besides the above suggestions.

Concession contract/agreement
Explanation:
In the private sector, the owner of a concession — the concessionaire — typically pays either a fixed sum or a percentage of revenue to the owner of the entity from which it operates. Examples of concessions within another business are concession stands within sporting venues and movie theaters and concessions in department stores operated by other retailers. Short term concessions may be granted as promotional space for periods as short as one day.

business franchise

Explanation:
Again, franchise in the UK used to mean the right vote.

I can't say I - having worked in conveyancing and with a relative who is a retired, unpopular Solicitor in London specialising in business transfer agencies - have come across lease or leasing management, as opposed to a management lease.

There seems to be a corporate 'misconception and misapprehension' about the nature of a British & UK business franchise: my parents in the UK had once been private-individual cateriing-management franchisors to a private husband-&-wife team as business franchisees who rented working assets in the course of the trade.

Example sentence(s):
  • A franchise business is owned by an entrepreneur or .. group, offering a product or service labeled by a corporation that provides assistance in every aspect of the business, in return for a combination of a flat fee, plus fees based on profits or sales.

disagree  Tony M: Not here, Adrian — they're not talking about any kind of corporate franchise, just a very common way of running certain types of business in France, where you own the premises + equipment (usually) + put in a manager, who pays you rent, but is independent
13 mins
-> Usual disagree, Tony, but 1. the term needs at least to be considered 2. the franchisor/ee need not be a corporate 3. NB the turnover-related fee + 4. there are many types e.g. a managament franchise https://www.companybug.com/types-of-franchises/

agree  Ben Gaia: see my suggestion
2 hrs
-> Merci, thanks and yours is a clever inversion.

disagree  Daryo: Leaving the "franchise" = right to vote out of this story, a business franchise is a different type of arrangement - simply no way that it could apply to this ST.
4 hrs
-> Categoric as usual and without any ref. to hands-on experience.

franchise managership

Explanation:
My trusty Kettridge has this word for gérance which seems to fit. I would suggest franchise managership for the whole phrase.

disagree  Tony M: The problem is, in the case of this activity in France, there is no 'franchise' normally involved: it is a special kind of management popular in France, which seems to confuse people abroad?
14 mins
-> It's still an equivalent phrase in English which enables understanding.

disagree  Daryo: A [business] franchise is a different type of arrangement - simply no way that it could apply to this ST.

agree  Adrian MM.: This is def. a species of franchise based on a sales-turnover fee.

reservation-management

Explanation:
I found 'location' (French) to mean renting or hiring as well as reservation, while 'gérance' refers to management.

disagree  Tony M: But simplistically putting together two unrelated words found in a dictionary rarely yields a meaningful result, as is the case here.
8 hrs

disagree  AllegroTrans: Agree with Tony; you can rarely properly translate a legal or business term on a word-for-word basis; translation involves attention to context, which you are consistently ignoring
