I really don't want to translate it literally here as "under the patronage of," otherwise the result would be incomprehensible gobbledygook. Your suggestions would be most welcome!

Explanation:
This is one suggestion among a number of possibles, but which I think works particularly well here. It is easy to imagine "sous l'égide de" in the French and so the English expression is a good fit. It is a level of language which works well in the field of epistemology, which is the case here, I believe.
