French term or phrase: sous le haut patronage
La référence à la conception spinoziste de l’union psychophysique dépasse la sphère de la neurobiologie pour s’étendre à la biologie tout entière, comme en témoigne l’intérêt manifesté par Henri Atlan pour le philosophe hollandais dans son livre La science est -elle humaine ?, ainsi que ses multiples interventions placées ***sous le haut patronage de*** l’auteur de l’Ethique.

I really don't want to translate it literally here as "under the patronage of," otherwise the result would be incomprehensible gobbledygook. Your suggestions would be most welcome!

agree  Herbmione Granger: I was thinking "in high esteem of," but this seems like better wording. Captures the essence (of how I read the passage).

under the intellectual influence of the Ethics author

Explanation:
In 1836 Marx transferred to the University of Berlin, at the time the foremost scholarly center in the world. He abandoned his superficial romanticism and came UNDER THE INFLUENCE of the philosophy of the recently deceased G. W. F. Hegel. which dominated German thought. Lectures were less important than long conversations with Young Hegelian intellectuals, notably Bruno Bauer; they sought to use Hegelianism to battle the German religious, political, and philosophical status quo

agree  Herbmione Granger: Would "paying homage to" suffice? I agree that this choice of words fits the writer's style.

agree  ormiston: maybe even "in homage to"

-> thanks, not sure about "in"

neutral  Francois Boye: 'In homage to' would mean that Atlan's work is about Spinoza, which is objectively untrue.

Explanation:
This is one suggestion among a number of possibles, but which I think works particularly well here. It is easy to imagine "sous l'égide de" in the French and so the English expression is a good fit. It is a level of language which works well in the field of epistemology, which is the case here, I believe.
