The way I read this is that it is about the "listeners", not about the "listened to". Découverte used like this is not context-specific and using examples from different contexts will perhaps make it clearer. If a tour operator advertises un voyage découverte, they mean that their customers are about to discover a country, for instance, and not old, new or never heard-of tours. An émission découverte is about its audience being intoduced to whatever topic the programme is about. Musique découverte, to me, is about introducing listeners to music styles or artists that it is thought they may not know. If this was about "promoting" artists, i.e. who is listened to ("breakout music", "hidden gems" or "new artists" as suggested below) and not about the listeners, my feeling is that we'd have découvertes in the plural. France Musique has a programme called "Chefs-d'œuvre et découvertes" (the "listened to" > plural) but if you want to introduce the audience (the "listeners") to a topic, you'd be using "À la découverte de [la musique baroque]" in the singular.

Looking at how this expression is used it seems that it can imply new talents that are about to be big but are not well known yet (which is the idea of breakout), but it quite often refers to obscure stuff you'd never have found on your own, particularly world music.

Agree with philgoddard. Exactly what découverte means when used like this: "let us show you something that you don't know/On va vous faire découvrir quelque chose.". Context is irrelevant here: it could apply to just any topic.

Thanks philgoddard - so just 'new music' or something along those lines then? I was wondering if it was this but it didn't seem to fit that well with the rest of the list. writeaway, this is a list of music that can could be used as background music in a restaurant. Sorry I didn't give the context, I wasn't sure it would help much.
