English translation: dummy target

French term or phrase: plastron
I'm translating a text about training simulators and sonar detection exercises. The text refers to a 'plastron' located 10km away. Original text: "les pertes de propagation sont de 21 dB pour un plastron à 10km émettant à une fréquence de 5000 Hz"

I believe it might be a type of naval training vessel, pretending to be the enemy for training purposes (having found this in a French article: "Dans la marine un plastron c'est un navire qui sert de cible à l'exercice, de faire valoir, qui joue le méchant").

Does anyone know the equivalent term in English?

Explanation:
The miltary also use "Orange forces", "Opposing forces" in HQ documents.
By tradition, and during the cold war, our forces were "blue forces" and enemy was "red forces" in exercises.
After the cold war, not to offend any nation, enemy forces were described as "orange forces"...

Example sentence(s):
  • Orange forces crossed the border to-day..."
