molécules

English translation: Drug

Medical - Medical: Pharmaceuticals
French term or phrase: molécules
So I'm working on a text for a company that produces applications for use within the medical industry, and one of these applications is related to the dispensation of medication. It refers to the term "molécules" a couple of times, and I'm not 100% sure if this is just another way of saying medication in a general sense, given the context:

A literal translation of "improving the efficacy of their molecules" just seems utterly bizarre, and in English the term seems to be used more to refer to the molecules contained within the medication, rather than the medication itself.

Your help would be much appreciated!

Given the context I think you're absolutely right, they're just talking about the medication/drug in terms of the product as a whole. Thanks!

agree  pennylyd: I would agree - either drug or compound is more generally used in the UK. See also https://www.proz.com/kudoz/french-to-english/medical-pharmac...

molecule

Explanation:
I would opt for molecule as they refer to impact they have on the environment. Disposal of "drugs" can be complicated by the actual molecule.

compositions

Explanation:
Compositions is the molecules that make up the drug while formulation is how they are mixed together. As "molecules" is more about the ingredients than the mixing, I think this is best

molecules

Explanation:
Molecules are tiny particles, the component parts which make up an animate object.

"Molecules are the smallest part of a substance that retain its chemical and physical properties, and are composed of two or more atoms. Molecules are a group of similar atoms held together by chemical forces."

"A prophylactic vaccination is a selected exposure to a weakened or diluted form of an infectious agent to encourage a patient to form antibodies (resistance against the disease). If a patient is exposed to the infectious agent, the antibody will help prevent the spread of infection."

https://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/prophylacti...

"The main problem is that the virus against which the vaccination is directed must have a different N sub-type than the virus present in the vaccine, which, for prophylaxis vaccination, is impossible to establish beforehand."

Example sentence(s):
  • One solution for those who pay is money, and for the pharmaceutical industry it's an improvement in the effectiveness of their molecules and means of reducing their negative effect on the environment."
