"En ce qui concerne les biens archéologiques immobiliers : ..."

"En ce qui concerne les biens archéologiques mobiliers :

- que par exception aux articles 552 et 716 du Code civil, les biens archéologiques mobiliers qui pourraient éventuellement être découverts sur son terrain appartiendraient à l'Etat dès leur mise au jour à la suite d'opérations de fouilles archéologiques ou en cas de découverte fortuite, à compter de la reconnaissance de l'intérêt scientifique justifiant leur conservation ;
- que si les biens archéologiques mobiliers mis au jour constituent un ensemble cohérent dont l'intérêt scientifique justifie la conservation dans son intégrité, l'autorité administrative en fera sa reconnaissance et la notifiera au propriétaire ;

I looked up those articles in the Code Civil. Unfortunately there is no use of the term biens archéologiques mobiliers, although there is use of the word trésor.

I have just tentatively put "real archaeological property" for the biens immobiliers and "movable archaeological property" for the biens mobiliers. Sounds very clunky though. Any archaeologists out there?

"Artefacts
Artefacts are material remains but they differ from the larger architectural remains often better called ‘features’. The non-movable objects, such as buildings, that have been constructed or modified by people, must be left in situ. Remnants of objects such as the remains of decayed organic materials are sometimes referred to as ‘stains’ in the archaeological record. These, too, must usually be left in situ.

The remains of significant objects that were built on location poses few problems to the archaeological data collector as to its original measurement, direction, and association. It is the smaller, portable objects that, although easy to first quantify in the field, pose the greater difficulties when it comes to interpretation. "

agree  AllegroTrans: moveable rather than portable

  -> Thanks AT. Both moveable and portable seem to be used. Since the old London Bridge was moved to America, I prefer "portable".
