French term or phrase: enceinte des risques
I am translating a big insurance policy for a manufacturer of energy management and automation equipment. I am a bit stuck on this term, which appears just once in the document, under the "Biens assurés" section:

"Les biens assurés peuvent se trouver dans les établissements assurés, sur chantier, dans ** l’enceinte des risques ** et à leurs abords immédiats, chez des fabricants, fournisseurs, façonniers, sous-traitants, dépositaires, entrepositaires, hébergeurs, et tout tiers en général, en flottant, dans des foires, expositions, partout où besoin sera dans la limite territoriale de la police."

Does it mean premises that are at risk? I just cannot seem to get my hear round the meaning of this term at all! Your insights, as ever, would be gratefully received.

within the insured premises
Explanation:

I agree with your "premises".

Enceinte:
dans l'enceinte de cet établissement
: within ou in(side) this establishment (R&C)

Premises:
(1) In a property insurance policy, the location where coverage applies. Usually described in the policy with a legal address. (2) Building or land occupied or owned by an insured.

For instance:
Fire safety guidance for existing premises with sleeping accommodation
https://beta.gov.scot/publications/practical-fire...premises... - Traduire cette page
13 juin 2018 - An assessment should be made of those persons at risk if a fire occurs within or in the immediate vicinity of the premises.

Incidentally, "immediate vicinity" would be a good translation for leurs abords immédiats in your question.

I also came across "precinct" in one of my paper dictionaries:
appareil se trouvant dans l'enceinte des risques
>
"device within the precinct of the risks"

I'm not including it in my answer as I'm not sure at all but thought I'd mention it.

Further to Daryo's comments,

It is clear that risques refers to risks that are insured.

I would definitely not ignore the fact that the word risque is used. Insurers don't use that word lightly and it simply cannot disappear from the translation. Nor can you ignore the reason why it's there.

A risk is insured or is excluded. The context clearly shows that these risks are included, i.e. "insured" when the time comes to draft the policy. We've just had "établissements assurés" and "risques" is preceded by the definite article, which... defines them for insurance purposes, and not by an indefinite article ("risks, whatever they are") which no insurer could accept.

I realise that translators feel more comfortable when all the words they expect are there, but experience of these insurance texts is useful too when things are not clear.

agree  Adrian MM.: alas, most g/hits turn around the phrase to 'expectant mother' risques d'enceinte.

agree  Eliza Hall: And I disagree with Daryo. The original text is about "the insured goods"; this bit of text is about the location of said goods, namely, "within the X premises" (X could be "insured" or "covered").
