Ou des tests génotypiques qui consistes à amplifier des gènes viraux qui sont impliqués dans la résistance et à les séquencer, pour voir si il y a des mutations conférents la résistance, la même approche que l’on fait pour le VIH en ce moment

I don't quite understand the meaning of 'conférer' in this sentence. Could it be that the person who was doing the transcript misunderstood the word said?

whadda ya'll think?

agree  Diantha Guessous: Grammar errors in the source text sure don't help! ( another verb form error in line 1). In any case, confer/(ring) is often used in such contexts. Lots of hits in Pubmed See also.http://www.aegis.com/conferences/hivdrw/2002/41.html

Explanation:
In the sense of mutations conferring resistance to (probably - context required) some kind of treatment. If anything is wrong with the source it maybe should read "mutations qui conférents la resistance"

Explanation:
the mutation renders the virus resistant to ganciclovir that is only targetted to some forms of the virus. That is why they wnat to sequnce the virus in order to know if it is of the variety that will be targetted by the drug. If not it would be useless to use this drug against that mutated virus

so indeed the mutation confers resistance (to the drug) in this case.
