French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Food & Drink / extruded foods
French term or phrase: jonc de matières alimentaires,
Context:

This covers all manner of foodstuffs, aperitif, sugar, dog food, etc.
So need one word to suit all.

jonc de matières alimentaires
bead of comestible substances

Explanation:
In other context, a 'jonc' can often be a 'bead' (in the sense of 'beading'), and cf. the idea of a 'weld bead'. I've not seen it used in this exact context, hence my low C/L, but it seems plausible to me.

extrudate

Explanation:
If you are looking for a generic term for what comes out of the extruder, it's extrudate. I think after that the extrudate is sometimes referred to based on what it's made of, ie the pasta, the dough, etc, the "extruded mass" perhaps.

disagree  Tony M: We are talking about extrusion here, and it has been quite fully described by Asker; I do not believe that 'rod' in EN would be right at all as, unlike 'jonc', it suggests something fairly rigid (e.g. 'tige' in FR).
