French term or phrase: encode...l’indice kilométrique
This is from a Belgian document setting out a Company Car policy. Does this mean the employee has to record the kilometers travelled when purchasing fuel? If so, how should I express this in English? FYI, I have translated "retraits de carburant" as "fuel purchases" elsewhere in the document. The full sentence is as follows:

Le salarié encode à chaque retrait l’indice kilométrique du véhicule, faute de quoi la facture Total fera apparaître des consommations incohérentes qui donneront lieu à des refacturations.

Thank you!

The employee enters the odometer reading of the vehicle...

I think 'encoder' just means entering data in this context.

Asker: Thank you Cyril. I'd never come across this before. Phil, it is indeed about company fuel cards, thanks.

agree  writeaway: yes, a literal translation seems to be all that's needed/seems to work well enough

agree  philgoddard: I may be wrong, but I think this is about company fuel cards, and employees have to enter the mileage on the pump each time they make a purchase.

agree  Tony M: I often encounter 'coder' for simply 'data entry' (saisir) (dates back to the olden days of 'keying' etc.)
