Hi,

I'm wondering how best to translate 'courant' in the context of roof tiles.

My understanding is that it is possibly the 'pan' tile in a cover and pan model. I also understand it to be the convex (i.e. the hollow) part of the tile itself.

It crops up in several parts of the text I am translating - here are some examples:

"Courant à tenons"

"La similitude d’aspect du toit fini avec la tuile canal est renforcée par son courant en creux."

"Son esthétique qui reprend la rupture traditionnelle entre le courant et le couvert est renforcée par..."

"Son esthétique unique, avec son courant courbe et son galbe tranché..."

"S’y ajoute un courant à talon pour la pose sur liteaux"

"Des baguettes d'étanchéité, situées en amont du couvert et du courant permettent de diminuer la zone de recouvrement"

"Le modèle unique de tuile de courant lui permet d’être posée aussi bien sur liteaux que sur volige"

My question is - is my understanding of 'courant' as 'pan' correct, and would that translation be appropriate in the instances I have mentioned (i.e. to refer to the type of tile itself - being the concave tile that fits with the convex ('cover') tile, and to refer to the hollow part of a tile itself)?

I am a little unsure, particularly in regard to 'courant courbe' - I have understood this to refer to the 'curved pan' but I'm not 100% sure.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!

Thanks - I think that 'pan' (as in, cover and pan tiles) actually works better and has more reliable UK hits - also, 'under' wouldn't make much sense as a translation for 'courant' when the text is speaking about the hollow part of the tile. Thanks for your references though, they were helpful!
