This is my second question from a text that quotes the "Guide Pratique relatif à la lutte contre le blanchiment et contre le financement du terrorisme"(2018 edition). The whole sentence is:

Un contrôle automatique se matérialisera dans le système et le contrôle manuel via une édition papier/format PDF avec un commentaire des résultats.

I'm a little unsure about the whole thing to be honest, is it saying that an automatic control takes place in the system while a manual control is done using paper/PDF format with a discussion of the results?

The manual control of accounts is not "done" using "paper/PDF format", it's the findings / the report of the manual control that has to be "presented as" a PDF file (an electronic file) [presumably a non-editable PDF] **and when and if needed** a printed version / paper version of the said PDF file (in as many copies as needed).

A clue : "avec un commentaire des résultats" => the PDF file is the report, NOT a form to be filled.


In fact, there is an implied repetition:

Un contrôle automatique se matérialisera dans le système (=> une alerte / un rapport sera généré automatiquement par le logiciel / le "système").

So in fact what will be added to **the IT system** is an electronic file "ready for printing" (= in PDF format). The whole point of the PDF format for electronic files being that what you see on the screen is exactly how it will look when printed.

No actual paper anywhere to be seen ... until someone wants a printed copy.

I believed that PDF files are read-only and that they can be readily printed on adobe or acrobat reader / writer.

disagree  Daryo: PDF is a standard for electronic files so they is no way that anything printed on paper could be "PDF" // PDF files are designed to be "printable" but PDF is a file-type /"format" for *electronic files* i.e. NO SUCH THING as "paper in PDF format"
