Can someone please tell me what a good English translation of this might be? There are so many slightly different kinds of 'rustdagen' in Belgium and the Netherlands...

'inhaalrustdagen', 'vervangingsdagen', 'verlofdagen', 'betaalde verlofdagen', 'vlottende verlofdagen', snipperdagen', etc

Thanks Jarry Yes, this most certainly is not an easy question. Many (if not most) of the terms in the small fragment I quoted by way of context are actually rather difficult: there is the peculiar Belgian 'bediende vs arbeiders' conundrum ('white-collar' vs. 'blue-collar', ???); there is 'EWAD' + 'GWAD' ('effectieve wekelijkse arbeidsduur' + 'gemiddelde wekelijkse arbeidsduur' ... 'actual weekly working hours' - 'average weekly working hours' ???), and last but not least, we have the 'inhaalrustdag.' If this is a non-Pro question, ... I wouldn't want to come across a real one! How difficult must a question be before it warrants being classified as 'Professional'? (Incidentally, I think I am going to go with 'rest day' - not quite sure yet what to do with that 'inhaal' part though...)

Pro or Non-pro I think it is quite ridiculous to reclassify this question as Non-pro. The number of answers so far seem to confirm this.

I hope this is enough. So far, I was leaning towards simply using 'Rest days,' but I'm not certain this is specific enough. The term appears in columns, so I also don't have much extra space for lengthy parenthetical explanations.

Servotte Business Dictionary (Standaard Uitgeverij Antwerpen, Belgium) gives this solution.
As for "inhaal" I would suggest 'backlog' or perhaps 'arrears'. Van Dale NL>EN gives 'day for catching up' (sic) for "inhaaldag".

I think I will eventually use 'compensation day;' it is perhaps a little too general, but I think it's a safer option. Perhaps 'compensatory rest day,' but that doesn't sound quite right either. Thanks!
