great at safety plays Explanation: Safety (gridiron football score) ... Safeties can be scored in a number of ways, such as when a ball carrier is tackled in his own end zone or when a foul is committed by the offense in their own end zone. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:30:47 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- one of my pet hates is American football but this might work -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:32:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- just as I can't stand British rugby... violent and basically senseless -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:33:09 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- pure machismo -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:34:33 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- anyway, I'm sure some American football fan will come in with something more specific.... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:35:52 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- and I still abhor American football -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:40:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "standout" means "exceptional" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:42:10 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- hope it helps despite my prejudiced view of these "sports" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:50:24 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- see what I mean? -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:51:26 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- just go with what you think is more appropriate |

outstanding defensive back Explanation: "Standout" as an adjective means outstandingly good, conspicuously excellent, "Safety" is a position in American football. It means a defensive back. There are usually two of them and they are the last line of defence. For further details on their role, see this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_(gridiron_football_posi... "Wideout" is another name for wide receiver, an offensive (attacking) position: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_receiver -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-01-09 02:45:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- (I meant to post confidence 4, not 5, though I am sure of the meaning) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2019-01-09 10:26:34 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Lincoln is right: "defensive back" is an incomplete definition, because apart from the safeties there are other defensive backs called cornerbacks. The safeties take up more central positions. |
