Armaat,

Thank you! The definition you provided is very helpful. I posted this questions to help a friend who posted the same questions earlier in the English>Chinese pair. We were not quite sure of its exact meaning and unable to find an existing Chinese term from available dictionaries. Because of the definition, we solved the problem.

I would also like to thank Cilian and Jonathan. They also provided very helpful information.

Litotype may not be a typo. I saw litotype is as frequently appeared in literature as lithotype, as well as ¡°litology¡± (lithology) (Please see http://correio.cc.fc.ul.pt/~mcachao/DOUTORAM.HTM). Probably, both are right as in the case of sulfur and sulphur. Thank you again!

Explanation:
Greek for 'stone'

could it simply mean 'type of stone'? (assuming it should read lithotype)

just guessing
