English term or phrase: Ink supplies Vs Cartridges
Can someone tell me the difference between the two?
I have seen them translated more or less with the same word, but I have one sentence where they both feature.

"When you’ve got a deadline to meet, the last thing you need is for your output to be less than perfect or, worse yet, your printer to fail. HP Designjet printers, printing material and **ink supplies** are tested extensively to ensure outstanding reliability across a wide range of conditions and therefore provide trouble-free operation.

All HP Designjet printers, printing material and **ink supplies** are exceptionally consistent, roll to roll, **cartridge to cartridge**."

In the end, given the tone of the text, I put "ink supply"="ink" (inchiostro); in other words, I translated it with a very generic term so that you can read it in whichever way you want.
Thanks to all!!!

-> ok, maybe nor refill kits, but ink kits like http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF17a/A10-12771-6419... rather than just cartridges :-)

agree  RHELLER: yes, cartridge is the specific item, ink supplies is the name of the general category

agree  conejo: It could potentially also refer to toner, or some other type of ink supplies that is not a cartridge.

-> right - any other ink product, not necessarily just a cartridge

ink supplies vs cartridges
A cartridge is just one way to supply ink

Explanation:
The relationship between 'ink supplies' and 'cartridges' is similar to the relationship between 'dog' and 'French Poodle'.

Just as a 'French Poodle' is a type of 'dog',
so a 'cartridge' is a type of 'ink supply'.
