English term or phrase: Issue

I am translating a birth certifcate from Queensland/Australia. In the section where the parents are listed there is the mention of "issue", first issue-living (names and ages) and then issue-deceased. I have never come across this before. It usually says "previous children of the same parents". I just would like to receive some confirmation: Does "issue" stand for "previous children"?

Another word for offspring.

There might be certain legal connotations to it, i.e. legitimate vs illegitimate children, but in general you can read it as offspring.
