can someone help me understand the difference between keystone (dovela?) and crown(cornice)? I am working on a paper that deals with the geometry in church vaults in the Valencia cathedral.

agree  Charles van der Heiden: A keystone is not only the middle stone in the apex of an arch, but also in the apex of a vault, which is what the paper is about. There can even be central and peripheral keystones (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystone_(architecture).

agree  Christopher Crockett: I'm with you (and Charles) on "keystone" in an arch, or a vault --specifically a [Gothic] rib vault, the ribs of which make up of multiple "arches" which come together in the center of the vault. Your definition of "cornice" is a rather unusual one.
