English term or phrase: logic- chopping
Acerca de las cuentas que tenemos que rendir después de la muerte:

"It is all a summary
procedure, but just, with no provision for logic-
chopping or
argument or appeal to any higher power, nor can there be
any chance of release there from".

discusión sobre nimiedades
Explanation:
My only issue with the answer above is that sophism (sofismo) is, according to Oxford dictionary: a fallacious argument, especially one used to deceive.
That's not the feeling I'm getting from logic-chopping. According to Mosby's one of the (many) synonyms for logic-chopping is hairsplitting and that is the nuance I think they are getting at. That is, making unnecessarily fine distinctions in reasoning.
