Interlinking and optimising existing operational processes with new dig- ital elements such as machine learning, algorithms and artificial intelligence represent a smart possibility to exploit the company’s own potential. At the same time they confront tried and tested business models with new challenges of utilising the own data-driven potential in a strategically optimal way. Most companies still avoid internal recruitment concerned exclusively with the technical implementation of digital transition. For the most part, positions such as the CEO or Chief Information Officer (CIO) take responsibility for digital transition in general. More rarely the task is shifted to IT or marketing; there have been no clear assignments for the rest. Those who have already concerned themselves with this topic in more detail might consider the much debated position of the CDO that is becoming increasingly indispensable as a comprehensive contact point for the structured digitalisation of companies. This person purposefully leads the company into the required direction of digital transformation, promotes changes in the dialogue as connecting link between the levels relevant for the decision, and guides them through a technically trained organisation, as well as an assessment and exploitation of potentials.

Therefore, ***there is truly a need for a CAIO*** for companies who want to become and stay capable of acting digitally in the future. Besides this interdisciplinary position, the increased use of artificial intelligence and machine learning gives rise to the question of whether recruiting an ***in-house CAIO***—Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer—is also necessary for this specific technological area in order to further extend one’s own competitive advantage.

У меня в данном случае вопрос не о переводе отдельно взятого слова или словосочетания, а о том, какую мысль хочет выразить автор.

Автор приходит к выводу, что компаниям, которые хотят оставаться цифровыми в будущем, необходим директор по искусственному интеллекту (CAIO). Далее (если я правильно понял) автор пишет, что в дополнение к этой многопрофильной должности в связи с возросшим использованием ИИ и машинного обучения возникает вопрос о найме in-house CAIO (нужен он или не нужен).

Так вот чем (в данном случае) CAIO отличается от in-house CAIO? Автор пришел к выводу, что CAIO нужен,а затем задается вопросом, нужен ли in-house CAIO. Автор имеет в виду, что в компании может быть два директора по искусственному интеллекту? Один, так сказать, по общим вопросам, а другой именно по машинному обучению? Какова мысль автора?
