agree  Naim Jalil: or 'ragi'? i also found 'kamir' in dbp for ragi or penaik, but i'm not sure, which part of malay kingdom use that term for fermentation.

  -> thanks, naim. however, since 'ragi' is a PARTICULAR type of yeasting agent (made fr rice), not sure if it' wld be accurate for the generic sense required here, as this leaven may be of another material.
