La detartrasi consiste nella rimozione del tartaro sopragengivale mediante un apparecchio ad ultrasuoni e con strumentazione manuale mediante uno strumento detto scaler: in tal caso si parla di “scaling”. Le due tecniche vengono associate per permettere la rimozione dei depositi di tartaro sottogengivale, causa primaria dell’insorgenza della parodontite.
