Hallo zusammen,

Es geht um Motoren, die in Kernkraftwerken eingesetzt werden. Ein Unternehmen bietet eine Tour durch seine Werkstätten an, und es heißt:

"The tour include their hot shop and storage facility, motor repair, pump repair, control rod drive mechanism repair, pump manufacturing, and scale model flow test facilities."

Hat jemand eine Idee, was mit dem "Hot Shop" gemeint sein könnte? Es muss eine Art Werkstatt sein, doch wodurch zeichnet sie sich aus?

"Heiß- und Feuerarbeiten" wäre der eher "bürokratische" Begriff für Arbeiten mit großer Wärme-/Hitzeentwicklung und/oder offenem Feuer und daraus resultierender Brandgefährdung (wie Schweißen, Schneiden usw.). Möglicherweise ist hier aber einfach eine "Schweiß(er)werkstatt" gemeint.

Ich schließe mich an. Dem Kontext nach scheint es wohl eher die Schweißwerkstatt als die heiße Zelle zu sein, da es sich um Anlagen außerhalb des KKWs handelt (in dem von mir zitierten Abschnitt ist das nicht ganz deutlich geworden). Danke an alle!

Explanation:
I can only assume they mean a hot cell i.e. a shieleded cell or chamber for handling radioacrtive matrials. These are usually shielded enclosures with holes or "gloveboxes" through which items can be manipulated. Or alternatively things can be handled remotely.

agree  Steffen Walter: Given the nucl. eng. context, this could be another valid option (although I tend to think that this would not exactly be included in a guided tour through the premises).

  -> Yes, I see what you mean - certainly sites like Sellafield do include the hot cells (certain ones!) on their tours, as I've accompanied plenty in my time, but if this is just a motor manufacturer, Steffen's answer may be more appropriate
