English term or phrase: breakevens continued to edge wider
Our exposure to index-linked bonds, at the expense of conventional bonds, was beneficial as breakevens continued to edge wider – this is a trend that we expect to continue in the months ahead.

There are two kinds of breakeven: a breakeven for a business and a breakeven for a bond. Obviously, in this case, the breakevens being mentioned relate to bonds.

A breakeven for a business is a POINT. AS such, it cannot widen. On the contrary, the difference between two interest rates can widen.
