: 'reset' means 'remise à zéro', which I think is almost the opposite of your suggestion. It's not 'restart', but rather 'rethink'

I think the image used in EN is not really helpful here: 'remettre (ses idéées) à zéro' and you'd do better to translate just the straight, literal meaning they are trying to convey with a clumsy metaphor.
I suspect they are really saying "go back to square one", "start again from the beginning" — like doing a factory reset on your smartphone! In other words, the existing ideas aren't working, so they need to start over.
