I think they mean that she uses body fat to produce milk but does anyone know a good Dutch expression for this?

Het betekent volgens mij inderdaad dat ze lichaamsvetten omzet in melkproductie. Maar nu een pakkende Nederlandse uitdrukking.
Misschien iets als:
Ze produceert zich het vet van het lijf.
