This might help Explanation: The excavation looked at the Stanwell Cursus, a four-kilometre (2.5 mile) pathway about 20 metres wide and flanked by ditches, which was built as early as 3,800BC and cuts across the Terminal 5 site. The cursus was a pathway with religious significance which linked important sites. I can't seem to find any form of Dutch translation (perhaps because cursus roads only appear in Britain) Perhaps the best translation might be something like "cursus' wegen Reference: http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=2146411025 |

• course [kɔːs] zn. baan, weg; richting; cursus; portie; serie; laag ww. loop, koers, gang; konijnenjacht |

cursus monuments: steencirkels (soms stenen cirkelmonument(en) of steenkring(en). Explanation: Cursus monuments : "steen kringen" of "stenen cirkelmonument" (zie hieronder). Wij gebruiken steencirkels. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 14 hrs 38 mins (2005-04-17 11:26:42 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Zowel Kate als Henk hebben het al min of meer aangegeven, maar het Latijnse zelfst. nw.woord cursus is afgeleid van het Latijnse werkwoord voor rennen. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs 10 mins (2005-04-17 11:58:48 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Rethinking Cursuses David McOmish rethinks some old ideas to explain cursuses:http://www.britarch.ac.uk/ba/ba69/feat1.shtml Een prachtige verhandeling over \"cursuses\". The antiquarian William Stukeley, who first recorded the Stonehenge Cursus, believed it had been used for chariot racing by the ancient Britains and described it as \'cursus\' from the Latin term for race course. Looking at the outline of the site in the landscape, it does indeed look like a circuit of some sort. http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/filestore/stonehengeinter... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs 17 mins (2005-04-17 12:05:37 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Deze heritage site laat ook opnames/foto\'s van de archeologische plaatsen zien, incl. de cursusen\" Reference: http://www.collegenet.nl/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=183992& Reference: http://www.nieuwsbank.nl/inp/2000/03/0310E063.htm |
