Eksplozivno punjenje protuoklopnog sredstva ukomponirano je u pogodan oblik granate koji uključuje prednji stožac ili polukuglu od metalnog lima. Svrha tog posebnog metalnog dodatka bila je usmjeravanje toplinskog mlaza koji nastaje eksplozijom eksploziva iza dodatka prema naprijed, fokusirajući se na relativno malu površinu (koja odgovara površini spomenutog stošca ili polukugle). Budući da je brzina širenja tog toplinskog mlaza sastavljenog od rastaljenog metala i plinova oko 7500 m/s, nije nikakvo čudo što tolika temperatura koncentrirana na vrlo maloj površini jednostavno i brzo probija oklop. U ovom pojednostavljenom opisu čak je vojnim laicima lako prepoznati osnovni princip djelovanja kumulativnih punjenja.

Ovo sa dodatnim kontekstom može dobro doći kada se radi o striktno tehničkim principima djelovanja samog eksploziva gdje je potrebno napraviti razliku između pojmova. "Punjenje" je ipak neki generički i standardno prihvaćeni termin.
