Most rubber in everyday use is vulcanized to a point where it shares properties of both; i.e., if it is heated and cooled, it is degraded but not destroyed.

热塑性表示橡胶受热可分解成较小的分子,热固性表示橡胶经加热不软化,那这里的“destroyed”该如何理解,又该如何翻译呢?

Elastomer = 彈性體, 溫度越高彈性越強。
Thermoplastic = 熱塑性塑膠, 低溫下成固態硬如晶體, 溫度超過了臨界點便會變成液態。

擁有兩者特徵的就叫thermoset, 低溫下呈固態但擁有少量彈性。這裏說vulcanized rubber遇熱再冷卻雖然會降低其質量, 但不會因熱脹冷縮而崩裂。
