"Minor" as in a specialized field of study at university that is not your major, as in "Many American college students choose to study both a major and a minor," or "He is an English major, with a philosophy minor," or (here as a verb) "I minored in business." I've usually heard 专业 for "major," but what term could one use on a bilingual CV for a "minor" at an American university? I realize Chinese universities may not have "minors," so there may not be a native term, but they're common enough in the US that it seems like surely there is some accepted standard translation. I've gotten one suggestion for 选修专业. Is that the best approximation, or is there a better (or more standard) term? (Target audience: employers in P.R.China who would be reading the aforementioned CV/resume.)

agree  Sharon Toh, MITI MCIL: Yeah, what I know is 主修 for major, and 副修 for minor. 选修 is for electives.

  -> Thanks, the terms I am familiar with are also 主修 and 副修.
agree  Pawel Zygadlo: In Taiwan where I live, i主修 stands for major, and 副修 for minor. Basically they dont use the term 专业, which is common in China too often. In China it is 专业 and 副修专业 .
