De tijd dat Billie Holiday een licht, haast vibratoloos meisjesstemmetje had is nu wel heel lang geleden. Maar er is veel voor in de plaats gekomen: desillusie, drank, drugs en pijn. Maar of iemand ooit nog ‘Love For Sale’ zal zingen zoals Billie Holiday het hier doet, met alleen de pianobegeleiding van Oscar Peterson, is zeer de vraag. Het mooie ontdaan van al wat overbodig is, ***dof glanzend***.
