Just FYI: 'oppervlak' is neuter: het. 'wordt behandelt --> wordt behandeld I know this is a problem for you guys, so no problem.
I don't quite understand what you mean by "Het refereert toch aan het oppervlak dat wordt behandeld
and, perhaps more importantly, I can't verify why you think this since we are not going to have a look at the document.
I don't think it would be problem if confidential info, if any, was removed from the document. However, I respect your decision, if you don't feel like it, just don't do it. It's not the end of the world, just my curiosity.
There is, however, something else I notice now and that I wondered about.
The overviews below show which target groups principals should concentrate on, and on which applications/uses actual purchasers should direct their efforts.
Because the marketing is aimed at both principals, persuading them to incorporate the products in their specifications/bestekken, and smaller firms buying direct from the wholesalers.
Inderdaad. Zo lees ik het. Wat het betekent is me nog een raadsel, maar gelukkig is het Richards probleem, not mine. All I have to worry about it this bog standard contract I am working on ;)

i think it's essential to convey the idea of specific combinations of customer-market-substrate, which basically are the segments that could/should be targeted, as per Deze beide segmenten kopende klant-markt-ondergrond combinaties (...).
I'm still a bit puzzled though by the distinction between 'opdrachtgevers' and 'kopende klanten'. All I can think of really is that 'opdrachtgevers' could be for instance housing corporations and that the 'kopende klanten' would then be the smaller or bigger painting/decorating firms whose services are contracted by these corporations (and who would need to buy paints etc. in the context of performing these services). Unless 'opdrachtgevers' is used to refer to this consulting/marketing firm's own clients..... Very confusing, to say the least :-)
I am in the middle of a big project and cannot continue to contribute to the dialogue (I hate the small box to begin with) but I would be happy to have a quick look at your entire document and give you my two cents if you'd like.
Lianne, the substrate isn't specified at all, it's just a list of types of area. At the moment I'm translating it pretty non-literally:
The tables below contain my suggestions for the (applications/types of area/types of surface) where small and medium painting & decorating firms on the one hand and bigger painting companies and Specialist Applicators on the other should focus on winning orders for applying the product.
Those 'various places' would be applications. The 'surface to be painted' is common language but not very precise. In professional context, you would distinguish between surface properties and substrates.
I think 'application' might be right for the first use: the table just lists various places (balconies, car parks, office floors etc.) and whether small or large painters&decorators should try and win market share in these areas
Exactly, in a paints/coatings context, you cannot ignore the fact that 'ondergronden' usually means 'surfaces' (or, in fact, 'substrates', as used by the other colleagues, seems more appropriate here).... :-)
well it might be...but the document doesn't deal with technical stuff at all, it was written by a marketing consultant, and 'op welke ondergronden de kopende klanten zich zouden moeten richten' ??
