Dutch term or phrase: als vanzelf is ingeslopen
here is the relevant part of the sentence:

Dat animatie-principe is niet zozeer een recente methodiek die er met de videogrammen van Sans Soleil als vanzelf is ingeslopen, ook zijn beroemdste film La Jetée is eigenlijk al enn slow motion animatie van fotogrammen . . .

Thanks for any suggestions.

English translation:has/had crept in
Explanation:
As 'creep' in this context incorporates 'one'='vanzelf' I would think that there is no need to add 'as a matter of course' or 'automatically'. That would be repetitive.

thanks for the suggestion and explanation . . . I was thrown off by the additional emphasis (automatically, etc.) which made for an ugly solution, but which as you pointed out can be dropped.
This works for me.
Tina's suggestion might also help.
Thanks.

agree  Tina Vonhof (X): You could say 'just happens to have crept in' to put a little more emphasis on 'vanzelf'.
