neutral  Charlesp: profession is not wrong, but in the context it is referring to the fact that women have traditionally been excluded from the professions (as not a "women's job"

women´s occupation(s)

Explanation:
Just to give you the other alternative.

Professions often require higher education or training. Occupation covers a wider range.
Many of these jobs were taken by women because they did not require a lot of previous training. Girls were often told they need not stay on at school, because they would only get married and have to look after children anyway. Their income was supposed to be a supplement to the family income, while the men were breadwinners.

Nursing became a profession. I have just read about Sigrid Riise (Et liv med Børn), who insisted on taking a training. Some women could become teachers - again, typically in primary schools where there was less demand for the highest levels of education.

Then there were the jobs like cooking, cleaning, child-minding, factory work that called for dexterity rather than strength, waitressing and serving in shops, which could be learnt as one went along.
Many of them are still typical women's occupations.

The feminist came up in me there!
I warmly recommend Sigrid Riise's book if anyone gets hold of it - a really warm piece of Danish history, describing conditions especially for women from the hungry 30s to around 2000. She was a nurse and health visitor in Copenhagen. She also had a weekly radio spot.

agree  Brian Young: I agree with your remarks. I don't recall hearing the expression "female profession" anywhere, and even the use of the term "female" sounds a bit strange. I don't think it is used in this sense.

Professions that are traditionally dominated by women. In Denmark, this would be nursing, child care, teaching, care of the elderly, etc.
