Danish term or phrase: Socialpædagog
I have a Danish client who was trained and has worked as a Socialpædagog and who is now looking to immigrate to Canada. A number of Danish websites translate it as 'social educator', but that term has no currency in Canada. Does anyone know whether it would be sufficient to translate it as 'social worker' or whether a more specific term is needed in Canada? Thanks.

-> Thanks and lot Kim. I'm not sure, but I don't believe the education even exists in Denmark any more (which may be irrelevant for these purposes).

neutral  Jørgen Madsen: In 1992, the education for "børnehavepædagog", "fritidspædagog", and "socialpædagog" was united in one single education as "pædagog". Though each college still has separate currimucula.

When applying for a job in Canada, your client could also rephrase and use \'I have a (professional) social work education\'

That would of course be \'I have a Danish social work education\'

socio-educational teacher

Explanation:
According to the dictionary Dansk-engelsk uddannelsesterminologi.
Some educations do not have corresponding translations, so sometimes you need to use explanatory translations.

Dictionaries certainly give "social worker" as one possible translation, but maybe it sounds too much like the people employed by authorities to improve bad social conditions and help people in need. "Socialpædagog" is more oriented towards the social aspects of upbringing and education of children.
