agree  Berni Armstrong: That would also work. A listed building is certainly UK shorthand for a building declared of public interest.

declaration of public interest

Explanation:
The usual process for a heritage site is for it to be declared of public interest. That provides initial protection. If considered important enough it is then declared a "national heritage site". Finally, the holy grail for owners of such sites is to have it declared a world heritage site. Guaranteed tourism!

I'd say "in the process of being granted heritage status" - to describe objects or places that are on the road to becoming part of the nations' heritage. I don't like either of your options in the note to answerer section, they don't sound very "native". For buildings that have joined this august company, then Andrew's option would be open too: "the building, which has recently been listed..."

Notes to answerer
Asker: I like this answer best...thanks Berni. Do you think something can "become heritage" or that "heritage can be produced" as they speak of "procesos de patrimonialitzacio..
