Arabic term or phrase: الدواب
Hi everyone,

Does الدواب mean 'animals/beasts' in general or does it refer to a specific animal?

The word appears in a Palestinian novel. According to one source, it means 'buffalo' in the Iraqi dialect - is it the same in Palestine?

Context: في تلك الأثناء نراقب سوق الجمعة التي لم يكن فيها سوى عددٍ قليلٍ من بائعي المواشي والدواب

riding animals
Explanation:
Generally: it means anything that walks the earth, including humans.
Usually: it is used to refer to animals.
More specifically, according to your context: it most probably refers to riding animals, since "المواشي" refers to camels, cows and sheep.

الدابة: ما يُرْكبُ من الحيوان أو يُحمَل عليه، كالفرس والبغل ونحوِهما.
[معجم اللغة العربية المعاصر]

I don't know about Palestine, but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't matter here in this context.
